What is the moderation's position on anti-idle tools?

I wasn’t able to find anything in the help docs about anti-idlers.

I’ve noticed there are now quite a few characters who never seem to log off, but are also orange most of the time. They’re online all the time, no matter what time of day or night I log in.

So, what’s the stance on anti-idle tools? Are people allowed to use scripts or macros to keep themselves online by auto-reloading the page in their browser?

I don’t think it is a moderator issue.

And I don’t mind if people use anti-idle tools.
But why? What would the purpose be? Activity status (active, idle, away) is merely just to help others with a bit more info.

Some people just want to know what was happening in a specific place, I suppose. If you don’t idle, you won’t get asleep, so you’ll have the log.

But there is no auto-sleep for idling.
Auto-sleep is only if there is no active client (browser, mobile, etc.) sending a periodical ping signal. If no ping is sent within 1 hour of last ping, your character will auto-sleep by the server. Idleness is not taken into account at all.

(The client has a timer that sends this ping signal. Thus, keeping the browser tab open is sufficient)

OP’s question reads like people are orange (i.e. away) but not asleep. So they ask why people don’t just sleep when they aren’t around, I suppose.

Oooh! I see. Sorry. Misunderstood OP’s question!
In that case - no, I don’t mind people being ‘away’, even if I would prefer they were not.

Soon, when room scripts will be able to detect status change in characters populating a room, we can have rooms sending home idlers. So then, room/area owners may have the option of auto-sweeping idlers (if they are allowed to do room scripting, that is)
