Missing top-level area descriptions

Oh, I hope that wasn’t me who made you trek all that way >~>

:stuck_out_tongue: I don’t think so! Atleast, not by that name, and I didn’t do it with this name.

just sounds like something I’d do, giving terrible directions lol

The sacred valley actually has a no-tepleport policy (as in, they don’t work there due to lore reasons). That said, there are three different ways to get there, with trixens being available right from Sinder.

The whole trixen thing could be… Ah… Advertised? better. Again, something that could be notated in some sort of list of locations. Pick a certain point in Sinder, and then list basic steps to get to the locations in that list. IE, “From Sinder Square, go north, north, east, use trixen to get wherever”.

Spending 30 minutes looking for a location isn’t fun, and had no actual IC bearingon anything. If people were in those rooms, they were spammed by me passing by 3 or 4 times to go back through a different exit, or because I got lost and had to teleport to an earlier starting point to restart my search.

Having lore to say an area is no-teleport is great - I LOVE that. It’s a cool idea. That doesn’t mean you can’t have teleports that are completely OOC, and only serve as a QoL for players.

Edit to add: My character, and I’m sure others characters, often know much more than the player does. An OOC teleport could facilitate a character knowing how to get someplace, while the player may not know.

That’s a good point. I think it goes back to navigation shortcuts that should be a thingy, i.e. if the map said go north; go west; go valley; go west and you could copy-paste that and get there you’d do both a bit of exploration (by letting the client move you around albeit slighty faster), and getting there.

Gonna poke @Accipiter on that one.

That takes me back to the early 2000’s with MUD’s - Particularly Forgotten Dreams 3. I had a notepad of w;s;e;s;s;s;s;e;w; etc so I could get to various areas to farm mobs for whatever. Some public list of stuff like that would be perfect - I would even be inclined to not just copy and paste it - I’d actually manually follow it, so I could see the area. It’s just the fact of having a functional route to follow.

That, and/or having more advertisement/information on the train system and the trixens. I only an hour ago found about the trains having a direct path to Lamplight, and thought that was pretty cool - I know Lamplight’s in the forest bu f— me if I can remember how to get there. Now, atleast, I know the train has a shortcut.

That is on the world map. And the park (being the most populated room ever) has the directions to the map store in its description.

Still, the world map could, and should be better.

A post was split to a new topic: Area map hosting concerns

I think I sorted out the Cape Theia and the Clockwork city, and I reached out to the Umber area owner, so the immediate issue raised in this thread is addressed now.

That said, there are lots of good ideas in here in re. navigation that we can still improve on.
