I think the world map(s) is best to have hosted on wolfery as well!
It is unfortunately a concern with any type of external links; they may be used to reveal information to the one controlling the server hosting the linked resource.
My approach is; we allow links, but we do not allow embedding of external resources.
This way, it is at least up to the user to make the choice if they wish to follow the link or not.
Iām generally aligned with this notion, but thereās a whole bunch of things I host on my own for nowā¦
I host the area maps because I was the one collecting the maps and the original links went to imgur and they became rotten.
I host the la faille publications. I actually do the tracking, because I know how many times the link was clicked on and if people open it on the forums or from the website (surprise, people mostly used the newsstand bot to get their news that other people hated).
I was also working on this nice lilā website for the bank to make it slightly less annoying to use the whole previous week. I suppose there is a huge privacy issue of matching your character name to your IP address, but I also have no idea how solve it. Arguably, thatās a thingy that can be privacy-invasive, but I only looked at it from the āfunā angle. Itās a fun thingy to do, like, an actual banking experience much like a real bank. Do we need a bank in Wolfery? No. Does it create some fun roleplay situations? It does!
Iām kind of curious about othersā perspective on all this before I commit too much to this side endeavours, I suppose.
Well, I for one welcome our creative overlo ā¦ community members!
As with any plugin, external wiki, or so on - it has the potential of being misused. But I think people should be free to create external things - as well as people are free to choose if they trust these external things.
Just as long as it is clear that it is indeed an external feature.
But that could be an option for later; to let Wolfery proxy external links.
