Help with images

Hello! I have just joined wolfery and I haven’t seen much but I’m impressed so far! Unfortunately, I don’t have anything to put on my avatar (Normally when I roleplay I just grab a link to an image I like on an image board) and I know roleplaying with someone that has nothing to reference is hard.

I was wondering if someone knew of an artist that allows people to use their creations on roleplay sites like this? All of the images I have are either some artist’s OC or too explicit to not break the “Don’t use unsafe images in public spaces”

Any other suggestions of how to solve this issue are appreciated as well! (Unless it’s ai art. I do not condone ai art)

If it matters, I’m a guy. I have no preference on species

Thanks in advance!

Heyo! In this case, I’d be happy to help.

Many artists don’t want their characters to be used in a roleplaying environment for various reasons. Despite this, players who got the character from let’s say… Google Searches, e621, FurAffinity, reposts on Twitter, etc. are very unlikely going to check the character owner. Sometimes, artists can also do some RP, examples being Markov, Evamal, Nick T., Himari, etc. One exception I believe is if the character in question is not owned or is a one-off design that is meant to be featured in a single piece, but I wouldn’t suggest pushing your luck.

As for your question, I don’t know any artist who would be comfortable with this idea. While you could go for the safest option- AI, and generate art using specific prompts, I understand this isn’t what you wanted. I do have two characters I created, one is a squirrel (Tasha) that I have created but have yet to introduce (shown below), and the other one is currently owned by Azzy Blackwood. Would you like to RP as Tasha?

Other than that, welcome!

Coming from a mucking standpoint I rather dislike this site’s central focus on profile pictures and images. While I do think supporting the arts is nice, getting a commission for a character should not stand as a barrier of entry for roleplay.

When engaging with people, I try not to take the profile picture too much as ‘something to go off of’. A lot of time it is just something grabbed online (Make sure you give proper art credit, and don’t play other people’s characters) or some AI generated image. But, my recommendation? A lot of my favorite roleplayers will use stock images of animals to fill that gap and I find that rather charming. Having no image at all is fine, but. A crudely drawn avatar goes a long way too.

Seconded. A good description works so much better than a generic image.

Thank you all for the help! I remember reading something a few years ago about an artist who was fine with letting people use what they drew but I suppose it makes sense that they are in the minority. I’ll try and find another solution for the time being
