It would be nice if the Destination Icon ⛋ in the room name could be clicked and just auto-add that Destination to your personal list of Registered Teleport Destinations.
Actually a valid point.
I think that if there is any level of enforcement that rooms with a teleport must have the icon, maybe do a client update that adds the icon and link to register as a teleport as you suggest.
That way, if a room owner turns in the teleport feature, it automatically adds the icon and link. Right now, implementing just the link would be difficult without this update as it’s part of the text only title field.
This would allow for the icon to show up in a uniform fashion across the realm and would allow a feature update to allow a room owner or a builder to automate adding areas to the public teleport system too.
I don’t know about the teleport symbol being mandatory for any room with teleport being enabled. There are some instances where you might want a spot teleportable without advertising it. Since security is limited at best here, security through obscurity’s often the most reasonable option.
I can see reasons why someone wouldn’t want that as a mandatory thing. Like Tlancaalek says.
But I do think it would be neat as an optional opt in option for rooms.
For now, I try to include in the room description a copy-pasteable command do do the same with some formatting so it stands out. ((In addition to the icon.))
That is helpful too, and not a bad idea.
Perhaps have it as a sub-option for the teleport option instead. So both would need to be selected to show the icon and allow the link.
Though Lek pointed out a valid point, which would likely be the case for private rooms, but I’ve had 2 builders tell me any public space with the option should have the icon.
I can see the uses of having non-advertised Teleport locations too, like secret entrances and exits.
I don’t know the coding, so I’m only taking some guesses here:
A room basically has to be set-up to have a Teleportation available to it ( “This room isn’t set to be a teleport destination” )
- You make a room, and among the options are making it capable of having a Teleport
- You choose between “Hidden Teleport” or “Visible Teleport”
-
- If it’s Visible, then the room gets the ⛋ icon added to the room name.
-
- If it’s Invisible, then the room doesn’t get the ⛋ icon.
- When you click on the ⛋ icon, the script takes the Teleport command and copy/pastes/enters it into your prompt and it is added to your list of learned Destinations.
You could do more on the back-end with some sort of crawler that finds all of the Visible and Invisible Teleport locations if you wanted to for administrative purposes, or something, but really, at a minimum the icon just has to copy/paste/enter the room’s teleport command into your typing area.
Would this have a default name? Would you want a modal? How would this work? I’m not sure typing register teleport <name> is worth a lot of coding?
What I do wish would happen is the default list of teleports was expanded and maintained when zones were added.
Yes please. I would like this very much.
