I moved recently and I’m not sure if it has to do with that, I’m not really experienced with networking, but Wolfery since has been slow to the point of unuseable.
I log in and get to do maybe 1-2 actions, go to a location or send a message before anything I do just doesn’t go through. Sending messages, looking at profiles, moving to new locations. Nothing works. It’ll give me errors if I put in incorrect prompts but basically nothing else.
Has anyone else experienced this or know how I can fix it? I can’t imagine what changed, I brought the same router and everything from my last home.
More likely that your ISP is somewhat at fault. Some either have poor connections or flaky interconnections with especially international destinations - and since Wolfery is based in Sweden, it’s international for almost everyone. They can also do things like CGNAT which work OK for regular websites but can fail to support the persistent websocket link that Wolfery relies on.
You might try using a VPS or the Tor browser to access the site as they may offer a more reliable connection through active maintenance of their lower level link. (Or, if using a VPS/proxy already, try turning it off, or adding an exception for Wolfery.com and Mucklet.com.)
That said in my experience there has also been degradation of service performance at busy times (basically early to late evening USA) and it might be nice to bite the bullet and move from a now-old VPS in Sweden to a dedicated server with greater capacity which is also at least slightly closer to the majority of the userbase and can provide closer to uncontended links.
There is also a specific seemingly unfixed bug that relates to entering a room, often with many people, and getting “stuck”, never getting the description - for me this can be fixed by a page refresh but that’s not surprising as it restarts the connection proceess.
No i wasn’t using a VPS but I tried Tor at your suggestion and it seems to be holding a stable, ableit somewhat slow connection but thats an improvement over praying that a command goes through. For now a bandaid but I would prefer to have it thoroughly, fixed.
