[Bug] "Failed to connect" when switching devices [Solved?]

My typical usage pattern is to connect from my laptop during the daytime and my desktop during the nighttime. Recently (since the auth/security update?), whenever I connect to Wolfery on the other device, I get an error message.

Reproduction steps:

  1. Navigate to wolfery.com on device A
  2. Log in to account on device A
  3. Navigate to wolfery.com on device B

Expected: Login screen or character selection screen
Actual: Error message: An error occured when trying to authenticate: Failed to connect to the realm.
Workaround: Delete the auth-token cookie on device B.

Clicking “Back to login” or the “x” icon on the error message produces the same error again.

Device A browser: Vivaldi (Chromium-based)
Device B browser: Firefox

To be clear, it happens on both devices; whichever I’ve used least recently. I have a workaround, though deleting my cookies twice a day is a little silly.

Ooo! Welcome to the forum, @Volca, and thank you for a way to reproduce the issue.
I’ve had the same issue reported by Algier, but I failed to reproduce it.

But with the help of your steps, I made got the error as well. Great!

However, it also required two prior steps:

  1. Login on device B.
  2. Close device B tab (without logging out)

Thanks for the report! Now I can fix it.

I think it is solved now. It was caused by a timing issue in the client, that more commonly showed up in Firefox.

Reload the client with Ctrl + F5 and try it out. And report back if you still have issues!
