Unfortunately we recently lost a player (Shadow Fox and other characters). In discussing related issues it came up that we might want to have a space as a memorial some people as the need arises. Staff discussions arrived at ‘hey, that sounds kind of nice’, so we thought we’d discuss it further. And for something like this a bit of community input might be nice.
Typically on Mucks areas like this are a garden or some such with the person’s main character on display. Just wanted to throw it out to the community to see if there were any preferences. And also mention Shadow, who I do miss.
I would love something akin to this. I’m reminded that there is a Furry Ofrenda world in VRChat that memorializes people we have lost. I think this is a very nice suggestion.
I don’t know much about it, but… there’s a spot right off of the road to Klengvale that I understand used to host someone’s build that tragically blew up when they left? It… could be a fitting spot for such a thing. I know that there’s a memorial garden in Pieradyne, but I think that’s more for IC deaths and not OOC passed players. I also know that there’s a skull that marks the passing of a character somewhere under the tree of life in the cavern in the wilderness, so, there’s clearly a calling for something.
Perhaps the Grove of Oaks accessible from the cliff near the beach/lighthouse area, unless that’s used for something I’m unaware of? It’s physically close to the park, yet out of the way. I’ve seen folk idling in it before; could be good for reflection, as well as a final resting place.
It has a metaphorically-suitable soundtrack, too: The only noise that disturbs the tranquility of the grove is the rare rumbling of locomotives coming to and from the train station.
Mnnnn, I disagree, I know a handful of people who regularly use it - I think the Grove’s biggest hindrance is that it’s weird to get to, being stuck in kind of the cup of a weird horseshoe that you can only get up into from the bottom. Makes sense, though, really. Just…it’s kind of an odd geographical formation.
Well it wouldn’t go away, just get restyled a bit and maybe some sub-rooms eventually. Of course I can’t speak for everyone who might go there, but I also can say confidently Shadow wouldn’t mind people continuing to use the room for… current purposes… at all.
Good to know my character’s twig-bracelet-weaving antics would be able to continue!
For those looking for a more secluded area, there’s also a rocky sandbar southeast of the main beach. No trees, though. Of course, there’s plenty in the forest.
If there’s no objections I’ll aim for next Saturday (pending certain people’s availability) and aim for then for a little dedication ceremony and celebration regarding Shadow.
I look forward to seeing you there, and anyone else who knew Shadow or whose life sie touched. I hope that it will help folks with closure to share, and to celebrate Shadow’s life.
